Ocean Overhead
Ocean Overhead is an interactive light installation developed during Jasna’s artist residency at the Thinkery Children’s Museum in Austin, TX.
Suspended above the museum’s group entry space, the installation features a canopy of glowing jellyfish sculptures that respond to the movement of children below, transforming their presence into waves of light and creating shared moments of wonder.
The piece was inspired by the poetic overlap between ocean and sky, and by community workshops where children explored the themes “what’s in the sea?” and “what’s in the sky?” Their creations (mostly clouds and jellyfish) led Jasna to combine the two into floating, luminous creatures that feel both familiar and otherworldly.
Built using acrylic domes, fiber optics, LEDs, motion sensors, and custom programming, Ocean Overhead invites visitors to engage with the participatory experience above them, offering a space for curiosity, play, and connection through movement and light.
